Shines Seafood Launch Irish Sardines Range

Killybegs-based Shines Seafood has launched Shines Irish Sardines, representing the first time Irish sardines have ever been sold in retail outlets in Ireland. Previously sourced from Sardinia, Shines Seafood now use Irish sardines caught by small inshore Irish boats in the clean waters around the Irish coast, supporting local fishing communities.

Known as a highly nutritious and oil-rich fish, sardines are packed with natural Omega 3, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and Calcium and are a great source of protein. Shines Irish Sardines are caught during peak winter catching months when quality and nutritional content are at their best.

Available now at all major retailers and independent stores nationwide, RRP €2.49, 106g, choose from flavours including Tomato Sauce, Olive Oil & Sunflower Oil.

The offering represents the latest innovation from the family-owned Shines Seafood, which was founded by former fisherman John Shine and his wife Marianne, a former seafood buyer, and is run by the husband-and-wife team and their daughter Ciara. The company specialises in Wild Albacore Tuna, Yellowfin tuna, mackerel and sardines, using traditional catching methods, and classic preparation and preservation methods to ensure maximum freshness, flavour and taste. Passionate advocates for sustainable fishing methods, the latest launch also sees Shines working on a unique tracking system, expected to come onstream later this spring, that will allow customers to track exactly which boats caught their sardines.

John Shine, Co-owner and Managing Director of Shines Seafood, is delighted to bring Irish sardines to the market, saying, “The smaller the sardine the more premium the product and our tins average ten fish per tin. The scales and bones are non-existent and our sardines can be enjoyed directly from the tin. They offer a taste like no other and we can’t wait for people to experience our amazing Irish sardines for themselves.”
