Top Tips for Instagram

Instagram is the top performing social media platform right now and we want you to make sure that your feed is on fire. Here at Food PR & Communications we’ve devised our top tips to help you succeed on Instagram.

Captions, captions and more captions

Captions are important for expressing brand personality. You need to make sure that you’re tailoring your captions to suit your audience. The key to captions are to:

  1. Give a short description of what is happening in the photo
  2. Use a personalised brand hashtag so that all photos taken using this hashtag are saved within it
  3. Use hashtags but don’t overload your post with them or place them below the post using dots(…) or in the comments section

Stories

Users are interacting with stories more than they are with posts. Users post more frequently to stories than to their actual feeds. A great way to engage with your users and share user generated content is by adding the stories followers have tagged you in and feature it on your story. This also acts as an indirect testimonial for your brand. Stories that work well include:

  1. Behind The Scenes
  2. How To’s
  3. Takeovers
  4. Announcements

Less is often more

Setting a KPI of a certain number of posts per week is not the best way to run your Instagram account. The last thing you want to be is predictable and create audience fatigue. Posting fewer times to your feed can actually create higher engagement with your posts.

Fresh Imagery

Your feed should tell the story behind your brand but it should also be filled with crisp and captivating images. You want to make sure that your pictures are of a high quality and aesthetically pleasing. To humanise your feed, include images of your employees at work. Followers like to see this as it brings your brand to life.

Engage with your audience

Listening to your audience and responding to what they have to say is an important part of your business’ social media. You should always respond to comments to show that you are listening to your followers and that you like seeing what they have to say. As said above, adding user generated content to Instagram stories or sharing them to your feed is a great way to share user generated content while engaging with your audience.
