Test your food and music knowledge at charity table quiz

Do you know your Green Onions from your red shallots? Chef and restaurateur JP McMahon and Galway nightclub stalwart Dermot “Doc” O’Connor are teaming up to host a charity food and music-themed table quiz on Wednesday the 30th of November in Massimo in Galway’s West End.

The event is being held to fundraise for COPE Galway and raise awareness of the city’s homelessness crisis in conjunction with the charity’s Business Sleep-Out event.

JP McMahon, who runs the EAT Galway restaurant group (Cava Bodega, Aniar and EAT Gastropub) with his wife Drigin Gaffey, said, “There are families, single men and women living in unsuitable, insecure and temporary accommodation all over Galway. In 2015 alone, COPE Galway has supported 659 single men and women and their 369 children affected by homelessness in Galway. I’ve signed up for the COPE Galway Sleep Out to support COPE Galway and play my part in helping to prevent homelessness in Galway.”

The West End business community has come on board by donating amazing prizes, which include a VIP annual pass to Monroe’s Live, which will grant the winner entry to every gig in the music venue for a year.

The Music Vs Food Table Quiz is being held as part of COPE Galway’s Business Sleep-Out fundraiser, which will see thirty local business and community leaders, including JP McMahon, sleeping out overnight on Shop Street on the 2nd of December from 6pm until 6am.

Doc, who was famous for hosting the biggest music table quiz in the country back when the iconic Warwick was open, says, “I’m delighted to be involved in Ireland’s first food and music table quiz and I’ll do my best to keep Galway safe for rock ‘n’ roll. I’m delighted too to help with a very worthy cause which needs all the support it can get.”

A spokesperson for COPE Galway said, “It’s really valuable having the support of people like JP and the other business and community leaders. It raises the profile of the issue locally and supports COPE Galway in our work responding to the  homelessness crisis now being experienced in Galway.”

The quiz starts at 8pm and tickets are €40 for a table of four, available at www.roisindubh.net or by phoning Massimo on 091 582 239. You can sponsor JP’s Business Sleep-Out on the COPE Galway website at www.copegalway.ie/sleepout.
