The Universal Shakes Up Galway’s Cocktail Scene With Takeover Party

The Universal Bar + Kitchen in Galway is plugging into Ireland’s buoyant cocktail event circuit by hosting a takeover party in association with Teeling Whiskey on Thursday the 23rd of November.

An exclusive cocktail list featuring twists on classics will be available on the night designed by Teeling Global Brand Ambassador Kevin Hurley. Kevin, who has worked in and managed a number of venerable Dublin cocktail lounges including The Liquor Rooms, will guest shift behind the bar at The Universal for the very special event.

Conor Lynam of The Universal Bar + Kitchen said, “Teeling is a small Irish craft distiller and we’re a craft cocktail bar so there’s a naturally good match. Kevin is a wonderful whiskey connoisseur and mixologist who has a natural sense of pairing whiskey with seasonal and exciting elements. We’re looking forward to welcoming Kevin and trying his cocktails.”

Cocktails on the night will include twists on classics that include “Taking Liberties” made with Teeling Small Batch, Ginger Liqueur, Apricot Brandy, Stout Syrup, Angostura Bitters and Chocolate Bitters; “Lovechild” composed of Teeling Small Batch, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, Lime Juice and Red Grapefruit Juice; “Papers Please” made with Aperol, Pedro Ximenez Sherry, Lemon Juice and Orange Bitters, among others. Chef Paul Lewis will present handmade Whiskey Truffles.

Kevin Hurley, Teeling Global Brand Ambassador, said, “There is no doubt that Galway’s cocktail scene has been experiencing a resurgence over the last couple of years with some fantastic bars coming to the fore. I’m very excited to bring some of our amazing Teeling whiskey cocktails along and feature them in one of the most impressive bars to open in Galway over this time. It should be a great night and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there.”

The Universal Bar + Kitchen specialises in craft cocktails. Polished retro-glam décor, off-beat wall-art and a relaxed vibe create a laidback, lounge-style ambience. The list is updated regularly and features classic cocktails that have artisanal elements and distinctive, leading-edge twists. On the house list for November, for example, is a Maple & Apple Old Fashioned made with whiskey, maple water, apple juice and bitters. A French 76 combines house red currant vodka, lemon and prosecco.

The Teeling Takeover at The Universal Bar + Kitchen starts at 7pm on Thursday the 23rd of November. No booking is required but early arrival is advised.

The kitchen is open from 5.30-9.30pm, making it a great time, too, for trying The Universal’s food menu of  highly-creative, global-inspired dishes.

The Universal Bar + Kitchen is located at 9 William Street West, Galway.
